Sake cup/Era and author unknown
¥4,000
This sake cup has beautiful deep green and earth tones that evoke the great nature, and a hand-carved grass pattern is nice. It feels wonderful in the hand, perhaps because we perceive the humanity that the subtle distortion brings. By the way, in Japan, the color of this sake cup is called "yomogi-iro. Yomogi is a plant that heralds spring and also means Japanese mugwort, and has been popular since ancient times as a plant to ward off evil spirits due to its strong fragrance. Even today, we have the custom of eating Japanese mugwort rice cakes.

White small plate 1600s-1800s
¥2,700
In Japan, Mamezara (small plate)have been widely used to hold soy sauce, salt, and other seasonings since the Edo period (1603-1868), some 400 years ago. This plate is also thought to have been used in an ordinary household during the Edo period. The black spots on the plate are the result of straw shavings mixed in during the firing process, and add a nice accent to the beautiful off-white plate. A feature worth mentioning is also on the back of the dish. The pattern, like the path this dish has followed over the long months of its life, gives us the power of imagination.

Small incense container with blue ocean waves ,Vietnam 16c-17c
¥9,800
An incense container is a type of tea ceremony utensil used as a container for incense. This is Vietnamese pottery that was brought to Japan in the 16th or 17th century. The blue wave pattern is called Seigaiha, and is known in Japan as an auspicious pattern, referring to all the blessings brought by the vast ocean. Tea masters were particularly fond of this type of bleeding in the blue and white porcelain. For them, bleeding is not simply a sign of damage, but a metaphor for imperfect beauty.
